North Adams Artist Census
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The Artist Impact Coalition (AIC) launched its second North Adams Artist Census of artists and creatives who live, work and participate in the arts in North Adams.
The Artist Census will collect responses from Feb. 15 to March 15, 2022 through an anonymous, 10-minute online survey.
Self-described artists who (1) live in North Adams, (2) work in North Adams, (3) make creative work in North Adams, or (4) regularly attend or participate in the arts in North Adams are encouraged to participate. After submitting a response, participants will have the option to enter a drawing to win one of several prizes offered by Plant Connector, Bright Ideas, Terra, the Airport Rooms at Tourists, and MASS MoCA.
Since launching in 2020, the Artist Census collects responses every two years to help the Artist Impact Coalition better understand the North Adams creative community and to assess its strengths and needs.
Like with the regular census, the specific demographic data for the artist community will help area organizations and initiatives better serve the population. In the aggregate, the data collected will make sure AIC prioritizes what the community really needs and track progress through future data collection, as well as offer critical information for grant applications that can leverage more money for the area. AIC will present the collected data from both the 2020 and 2022 Artist Census in May 2022.
The Artist Impact Coalition is a group of community arts organizers who care about making North Adams an amazing place for artists to live and work. Other projects organized by the coalition are NAMA Swap-o-rama, monthly artist e-newsletter, the New North Adams Project, North Berkshire Artist Meet-ups, Antiracism in the Arts Community Conversations. AIC stakeholders include MASS MoCA's Assets for Artists, North Adams Chamber of Commerce, Common Folk Artist Collective, MCLA Art & Culture, Eclipse Mill, Installation Space, Walkaway House, and various independent artists.
