North Adams Hosts Veterans Summer Barbecue Friday
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The second annual Veterans Barbecue will be held Friday, June 10, from noon to 4 p.m. at the Greylock Club pavilion.
Any and all veterans can attend the event that is hosted by Veterans Agent Stephen Roy's Office.
"It gets our veterans together in a normal setting to chat with other veterans and network with each other," Tina Samson, administrative assistant and organizer said. "This has been very helpful."
The event is named in memory of Michael Hansen.
Sampson said Hansen's family donates $1,000 to Veterans Services every year.
"So we decided to take that money and have a picnic for our veterans," Samson said "So now, every year Mr. Hansen's family donates. His sister Pamela Wilk of North Adams has been there to help or donate every year. Mr. Hansen was a very dedicated veteran."
Hamburgers, hot dogs, subs, salads, beans, and cupcakes are on the menu. Roy will be manning the grill with help from Samson's husband, David, who volunteers.
There will also be bingo, cornhole, horseshoes and raffles. Samson said there will be some extra food and new clothing available for veterans.
The Greylock Club is located on 584 State Road.
