MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Hoosac Valley graduate and St. Louis Cardinals propsect Matt Koperniak Tuesday was promoted to the Memphis Redbirds of the Triple A International League.
Koperniak's Double A team, the Springfield (Mo.) Cardinals, announced the promotion on its social media accounts on Tuesday afternoon.
Koperniak, who joined Springfield last season, was hitting .267 with eight home runs and 36 RBIs in 270 at-bats this season.
He played 50 games in left field and 15 games in right field with 60 starts for Springfield, which is 44-46 . Koperniak has a perfect fielding percentage this season with four assists; he was part of one double play for the Cards..
Last year, he played 33 games with the St. Louis' Double A affiliate after joining the club in August.
He joins a Redbirds team that is 51-42 this season and in third place in the International League's West Division.
Tennessee's Redbirds Tuesday start a five-game homestand against the Norfolk Tides.
The Redbirds have August road trips to Jacksonville, Fla., and Gwinett, Ga., and Nasville, Tenn. In September, they visit the Iowa Cubs and league-leading Nashville a second time.

Adams Parts Ways With Police Chief

ADAMS, Mass. — The town has parted ways with its police chief.
K. Scott Kelley "is no longer employed by the Town of Adams," according to interim Town Administrator Holli Jayko.
His departure follows an executive session held by the Selectmen last Wednesday to discuss a personnel matter other than professional competence, including health or discipline, or dismissal.
A request for further information on whether Kelley's leaving was through resignation or termination was not provided, or whether his contract had been paid out.
"The Town does not comment on personnel matters and will have no further comment on this matter at this time," responded Selectmen Chair John Duval via email on Friday.
Kelley, who moved here to take the post of chief in 2021, has reportedly sold his home.
