LENOX, Mass.  — Applications for funding community-oriented arts, humanities, and science programs open this month and are due Oct. 17.

The Lenox Cultural Council, in accordance with Massachusetts Cultural Council guidelines, has set an October 17 deadline for organizations, schools, and individuals to apply for grants that support cultural activities in the community. Applications open Sept. 1.

Council spokesperson Arlene D. Schiff said these grants can help underwrite projects, programs, and events in the arts, humanities and sciences that foster a rich cultural life for Lenox residents. New and innovative projects are encouraged.

Applications that provide free or low-cost programs/events will be given priority.  Please view the Cultural Council’s website for other requirements.

The Lenox Cultural Council is part of a network of 329 Local Cultural Councils serving all 351 cities and towns in the Commonwealth. The local cultural council program is the largest grassroots cultural funding network in the nation, supporting thousands of community-based projects in the arts, sciences, and humanities every year. The state legislature provides an annual appropriation to the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency, which then allocates funds to each community.  The Lenox Cultural Council also receives funding from the Town of Lenox.

Application forms, local guidelines and additional information about the Local Cultural Council Program are available at https://massculturalcouncil.org/communities/local-cultural-council-program/find-your-lcc/

Lenox Memorial Middle School Presents 'Honk! Jr'

LENOX, Mass. — Lenox Memorial Middle School students will perform a musical adaptation of "The Ugly Duckling" at the Duffin Theater on Friday, June 14 at 6 pm and Saturday, June 15 at 1 pm.

According to a press release:

"Honk! Jr." is a heartwarming celebration of being brave, bold & different that is sure to delight audiences of all ages with its witty dialogue, delightful dancing & memorable score.

Ugly looks different from his duckling brothers and sisters. The other animals on the farm are quick to notice and ridicule. Being bullied and feeling rather foul about himself, the little waterfowl finds himself on an adventure of self-discovery. Along the way, Ugly meets a whole flock of characters and finds out that embracing your differences and being uniquely yourself is an extraordinary thing to be! The story teaches us compassion, the power our words have on others and the lesson to never judge a book by its cover. For anyone who has ever felt different, this play is for you.

Suggested donation is $10 for adults and $5 for students and senior citizens.

Tickets will be sold in person, 1/2 hour prior to each performance at the door. A bake sale and a gift basket raffle will be held after the show.
