PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Adams Community Bank's (ACB) parent company, Community Bancorp of the Berkshires, MHC, announced the Bank's expansion into Pittsfield with its new branch opening at 660 Merrill Road.

An evening open house and ribbon cutting took place on Thursday, Dec. 1, with the new branch opening for business on Monday, Dec. 5.

Charles P. O'Brien, ACB President, stated that opening a branch in Pittsfield is a culmination of 18 months of effort by the entire ACB team and implementation of the Bank's strategic plan.

"Our focus was on finding the right location and team to open a full-service branch in Pittsfield. This location perfectly positions us, as we see an increase in demand for our banking services from individuals and businesses in this area. It is an added benefit to have the leadership and expertise of a talented branch team that maintains strong ties
to the local community."

Branch Officer, Julie Zdon, leads the new location with her 17 years of banking experience.

She is supported by a four-person team of experienced Community Bankers, including Ava Joy, José Aguilar Lopez, Alexa Durant, and Nicole Superneau. ACB's Business Development Officer Jay Ogle will be based in the Pittsfield Branch.

In addition to the new branch location, ACB introduced Interactive Teller Machines (ITM) called Customer Connect. Customer Connect offers a 2-way video conference between the user and a live Customer Connect Specialist. This technology allows customers to make loan payments, deposits, cash checks, complete credit card payments, redeem Coin Machine receipts, and more.

"The bank's overall goals remain unchanged. ACB will continue to serve the people and businesses in Berkshire County, take great care of its customers and communities, offer the best technology, and have a branch network that makes it easy for
customers to do business with the bank," O'Brien said.

The Pittsfield Branch will be open Monday through Thursday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Fridays from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, and Saturdays from 8:30 am to 12:00 pm. In addition, Customer Connect Services are available Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm and Saturday from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm.

Pittsfield Police Chief Retiring in January

By Brittany PolitoiBerkshires Staff

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Police Chief Thomas Dawley will retire next month after 24 years with the Pittsfield Police Department, and the mayor will appoint his successor.

Dawley's last day will be on Jan. 9, and he told iBerkshires that it was "just time." He began his law enforcement career in 1995 at the Berkshire County House of Corrections and was appointed police chief in June 2024

"Reasons for leaving are cumulative. I have been in law enforcement for almost 30 years. There is no particular reason for my retirement, I just feel that it is time," he wrote in an email.

"I love the profession and love this department. The duties, responsibilities and obligations as a Chief are very demanding. It is a lifestyle, not a job. It is a 24/7–365 days a year responsibility."

According to The Berkshire Eagle, Dawley told Mayor Peter Marchetti of his intention to retire back in April but had kept the decision quiet. Marchetti is expected to choose his successor in the next couple of weeks.

Dawley, 52, was "honored and humbled" when he was chosen two years ago to succeed Michael Wynn, he said, and he misses being an officer out in the community, as the role of chief is more administrative by nature. He described the officers and civilian staff at the department as "the best of the best" and is proud of the "second to none" dedication, professionalism, and commitment they bring to work every day.

"Policing is different than it was 10-20 years ago and the profession is being tested daily," he noted.

"I want a new challenge and preferably something that does not involve law enforcement, but I am definitely not ruling it out!"
