Lanesborough Select Board Approves Town Licenses

LANESBOROUGH, Mass. — The Select Board has approved nearly all of the town's heavy equipment and liquor licenses for the upcoming year. 

The board voted on the licenses with little discussion during a brief meeting on Tuesday, its last of the year.

The only license withheld from approval was John's Tractor, as board Chair John Goerlach operates the business and board Member Timothy Sorrell could not attend. 

Approved liquor licenses included: Bob's Country Kitchen, Brookhouse, Donnybrook, Hendrick's Summit Lodge, I Shree-1 LLC, Lakeside Bar and Grill, Lanesboro Pizza, Lanesboro Wine and Spirits, Lanesborough Local, Pontusoosuc Package Store, Skyline on Seven and Ye Old Forge. 

Approved heavy equipment licenses included: Berkshire Gas, D Condron Construction, D.R. Billings, JSS Jr Enterprises, Maxymillian, Wagner Millwork LLC and WM Kelley & Sons Construction. 

In other business:

  • The board approved the construction of five new power poles by Eversource after a request from the company on Nov. 30. Goerlach said all of the poles are in the North Main Street area. 
  • The board ratified Diane Snyder as the part-time treasurer/collector. 
  • The board ratified the hire of Tanille Ciempa to the emergency services department. 

The board will have its first meeting of the new year at 6 p.m. on Jan. 9.

Lanesborough Elementary Robotics Team Wins Berkshire Title

DALTON, Mass. – Lanesborough Elementary School Saturday continued its dynasty at the Berkshire Robotics Challenge at Wahconah Regional High School.
 
Lanesborough's Robotic Wyverns defeated the Whacky Bots, 300-230, in the championship match to conclude a full day of competition.
 
Twenty-five teams from across the county participated in the 25th edition of the competition sponsored by the Berkshire Innovation Center.
 
For the third time in four years, Lanesborough's pupils came out on top of the heap.
 
"They're good kids," LES coach Sean MacDonald said. "I feel like we're doing a pretty good job. We just keep them focused, and that's really the main thing."
 
"It's a fun job," added Renee Schiek, the Wyverns' other coach.
 
Lego Robotics allows youngsters to get hands-on experience with coding robots that then complete a series of missions – picking up objects, moving levers, pushing objects – to accumulate points.
