GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. – Triplex Cinema, Inc., has announced that two of the four theaters at the Triplex Cinema will be re-opening on Nov. 17, with showings of Director Alexander Payne's "The Holdovers" and DreamWorks Animation's "Trolls Band Together."

"It has been a marathon sprint, if that makes sense, to get the theaters open a mere seven months after forming our non-profit company and a mere four and a half months after purchasing the building from former owner Richard Stanley," Nicki Wilson, President of the Board of Directors of the non-profit company, said. "Our board has been working flat out to make this happen, and the response and commitment from our volunteers, donors, sponsors and other supporters has been overwhelming. Everyone who has wanted this to happen has just pitched in and now, here we are, ready to provide Berkshire County and the surrounding area with the entertainment and community meeting place we all were hoping for."

Initially, the cinema will only be open Wednesday through Sunday. However, it is expected that operations will begin their first full week starting in mid-December, when the company hopes to open its third theater.

"The Holdovers" opens on Friday, November 17 and will play at 1, 4 and 7 on that day, and on Saturday and Sunday, November 18 and 19. "Trolls Band Together" will play at 2, 4:15, and 6:30 on that Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with an additional screening at 11:45 am on Saturday and Sunday. The company hopes to have its updated website, www.thetriplex.org, up and running next week in time for on-line advance ticketing.

Elevated Mercury Level Found in Center Pond Fish

BECKET, Mass. — The state Department of Public Health has issued an advisory after a mercury-contaminated fish was found in Center Pond.

According to a letter sent to the local Board of Health from the Division of Environmental Toxicology, Hazard Assessment and Prevention, elevated levels of mercury were measured in the sample taken from the pond.

The concentration in the fish exceeded DPH's action level of 0.5 milligrams per kilogram, or parts per million.

"This indicates that daily consumption of fish from the waterbody may pose a health concern. Therefore, DPH has issued a FCA for Center Pond recommending that sensitive populations should not eat chain pickerel and all other people should limit consumption of chain pickerel to 2 meals/month," the letter states.

The letter specifically points to chain pickerel, but the 60-acre pond also has largemouth and smallmouth bass and yellow perch.

The "sensitive populations" include children younger than 12, those who are nursing, pregnant, or who may become pregnant.

The Toxicology Division recommends reducing intake of "large, predatory fish" or fish that feed on the bottoms of waterbodies, such as largemouth bass and carp. More information on safely eating fish can be found here
