JUPITER, Fla. -- Hoosac Valley High School graduate and St. Louis Cardinals prospect Matt Koperniak Saturday went 3-for-3 with a double and three runs batted in during a spring training game with the big club.

Koperniak doubled against Jeff Lindgren, who threw in three games during the 2023 MLB regular season for Miami.

Koperniak came off the bench in the Saturday split-squad game between the Cardinals and Marlins, a 9-8 win for Florida.

On Sunday, Koperniak had one at-bat without a hit in St. Louis' 3-0 win over Houston.

Koperniak, 26, went 5-for-12 with an RBI in eight spring training games with the Cardinals in 2023.

In 129 games last summer with Double-A Springfield, Mo., and Triple-A Memphis, Tenn., Koperniak went .287 with 18 home runs and 85 RBIs.

Koperniak, a three-sport standout at Hoosac Valley, graduated in 2016 and attended Trinity College in Connecticut. He signed a free agent contract with St. Louis in 2020. While in college, he played summer ball for the North Adams SteepleCats.

Adams Parts Ways With Police Chief

By Tammy DanielsiBerkshires Staff
ADAMS, Mass. — The town has parted ways with its police chief.

K. Scott Kelley "is no longer employed by the Town of Adams," according to interim Town Administrator Holli Jayko.

The Board of Selectmen voted on Sept. 8 to put the police chief on a paid leave of absence but town officials have declined to answer repeated questions about the nature of the absence other than to clarify it was not a "suspension."

His departure follows an executive session held by the Selectmen last Wednesday to discuss a personnel matter other than professional competence, including health or discipline, or dismissal.

A request for further information on whether Kelley's leaving was through resignation or termination was not provided, or whether his contract had been paid out.

"The Town does not comment on personnel matters and will have no further comment on this matter at this time," responded Selectmen Chair John Duval via email on Friday.

Kelley, who moved here to take the post of chief in 2021, has reportedly sold his home.
