Area Golfers Compete at Mass Amateur

WINCHESTER, Mass. -- Wahconah Regional High School graduate Tim Kaley was the low scorer among Berkshire County golfers competing at this week's 118th Massachusetts Amateur Championship at Winchester Country Club.
 
Kaley carded rounds of 76 and 75 on the par-71 layout to finish at 151 in the qualifying rounds. The cut line was 148 to get into the 32-player match play phase.
 
The co-leaders after the qualifying rounds were Max McColgan of Concord's Nashawtuc Country Club and Joseph Lenane of Hyde Park's George Wright Golf Club, who posted identical rounds of 69 and 70 to finish qualifying at 3-under 139.
 
Stockbridge Golf Club's Sam Doucette posted rounds of 76 and 79 to finish at 155. Taconic Golf Club's Will Kanegieser and Berkshire Hills' Patrick McLaughlin were just behind him at 159. Michael Martin of the Country Club of Pittsfield improved five strokes from the first round to the second, finishing at 163 (84, 79).

Dalton-Hinsdale 10-Year-Olds Reach County Title Series

PITTSFIELD, Mass. – Cooper Kennedy and Blake Preston each drove in a run in the top of the seventh, and the Dalton-Hinsdale Little League 10-and-under All-Stars held on for a 6-5 win over Adams-Cheshire in the District 1 Tournament at Deming Park.
 
Dalton-Hinsdale advances to Friday’s 5:30 p.m. Championship Game a best-of-three Championship Series that begins Thursday at Deming against Pittsfield, which went 2-0 in the three-team round robin.
 
Jayson Haskins was placed on second base to start extra innings for DH. He moved to third on Callen Bradley’s sacrifice bunt.
 
Kennedy followed with a single to left field to make it 5-4.
 
He then scored on Preston’s RBI double to give Dalton-Hinsdale a two-run cushion.
 
It needed the extra run.
 
In the bottom of the inning, Adams-Cheshire cashed in the “ghost runner” when Roman Rochelo singled to left with one out to bring home Oliver Singer, making it 6-4.
