BArT Launches New Certified Nursing Assistant Program
ADAMS, Mass. — Berkshire Arts and Technology Charter Public School (BArT) announced the launch of a new Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program.
The program officially opens to students in January 2027.
In partnership with Integritus Health, the certification course responds to student interest in the healthcare field while addressing the demand for healthcare workers in the Berkshires. Local healthcare employers have identified significant challenges recruiting and retaining qualified nursing assistants, and the CNA program aims to address this by increasing the number of local CNAs and connecting students directly to employers in nursing and other healthcare professions.
"I am excited to bring CNA training to BArT because it gives our students a chance to explore healthcare through hands-on learning while earning credentials that can open doors," said BArT's school nurse and CNA certification lead, Megan Middlebrook, BSN, RN. "It also allows me to give back to the healthcare community that has given me so much. I feel lucky to be a small part of this journey, providing future patients and residents with amazing healthcare from our caring, empathetic BArT students."
The six-month program will be offered to BArT juniors and seniors who are accepted through an application process. The inaugural class will consist of 10 students who will complete approximately 100 hours of independent coursework, in-person labs, and clinical training at Williamstown Commons Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
At the end of the course, students will earn their CNA certification, as well as receive a CPR certification, complete Narcan administration training, explore educational opportunities through Berkshire Community College's Nursing Program, and fulfill their internship graduation requirement.
In addition to the CNA program, BArT is launching three other certification programs this academic year, including an Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 10, food handler, and allergen certification. In 2026, the school launched its first certification course, Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA+), and student participation has grown by 100 percent in its first year.
These five certification programs are offered to students at no cost, with all credential expenses covered by BArT.
