ADAMS, Mass. — For more than five decades, the RambleFest celebration has grown to become a tradition for many.

The event showcases the strong sense of community that defines Adams while offering the perfect opportunity to enjoy the fall foliage, which is typically near its peak this time of year, said Kate Korzendorfer, member of ProAdams Board of Directors.

The two-day event kicks off on Sunday, Oct. 11, with a free community event from noon to 5 p.m. at the Adams Visitors Center featuring live music, a drumming workshop, a stand-up comedy performance, scenic train rides, a bazaar and kids' fair, and more. In the case of rain, Sunday's celebration will be moved to Oct. 18.

The Pug and John Show will take the stage at noon, followed by a drumming workshop from Tamarack Hollow. Pandemic Relief will conclude the music, playing from 2:30 to 5 p.m.

Families will have plenty to enjoy throughout the day, with children's games and the return of the popular pumpkin painting.

Berkshire Scenic Railway also will take visitors on sightseeing train rides departing from Adams Station, offering a unique way to take in the fall scenery. Those hoping to hop aboard are encouraged to purchase tickets early, as rides often sell out.

Food also will be available from local vendors, including Bezzle's BBQ, La Chalupa y La Enchilada, Dough Boys Pizza, the Adams Lion Club, Squeeze and Sip lemonade, Jaeschke's Orchard's fresh cider and donuts, Italian ice from The Snack Shack, and more.

There will also be libations on tap from Antimony Brewing, Shipyard Brewing Co., Garage Beer, Sam Adams, and Truly, plus wine and cider made possible by Bounti-Fare.

Korzendorfer, who serves as the organization's vendor coordinator, also anticipates more than 30 vendors this year, including soap and candle makers, jewelers, woodworkers, knitters, and other artisans.

The festivities extend well beyond the main events, with a full weekend of entertainment and activities planned throughout Adams. The Adams Theater will host comedian Jason Salmon on Friday, Oct. 9, followed by the Big in the Berkshires local music showcase on Saturday, Oct. 10.

Families can stop by St. John Paul II Parish for a bazaar and kids' fair on Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., while the Greylock Glen Outdoor Center will round out the weekend with community yoga on Saturday and a woodcraft showcase on Sunday.

After a weekend of activities, the 58th annual Mount Greylock Ramble, a hike along the Cheshire Harbor Trail to the summit of Mount Greylock, will take place Monday, Oct. 12. The round-trip 6.6-mile hike to the 3,491-foot summit offers a moderately strenuous, four- to five-hour trek rewarded with spectacular views from the top.

The first 2,000 hikers will receive certificates of accomplishment, and recognition will be given to the first, youngest, and oldest hiker to reach the summit, in addition to the hiker who has traveled the greatest distance to participate.

While at the summit, hikers can purchase refreshments at Bascom Lodge or walk up to the top of the Veterans War Memorial Tower, Korzendorfer said.

Leashed pets are permitted on the mountain, but not on the shuttles that bring hikers to the trailhead. A free shuttle from the Adams Visitor Center to the trailhead runs from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the return shuttle will run until 4 p.m. Very limited parking will be available near the trailhead, so use of the shuttle is strongly encouraged, organizers said.

Both the Mount Greylock Ramble and RambleFest are hosted by ProAdams, an all-volunteer group whose mission includes creating vibrancy in the town of Adams. These events are sponsored by Adams Community Bank, Berkshire Gas, Berkshire Health Systems, Bounti-Fare, Chee's Chinese, SBM Insurance, and the Town of Adams. Support also comes from the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation and the Adams Fire Wardens.
