PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Berkshire Museum announced its slate of upcoming on-site programs and events.

From an adult-oriented program that explores the Egyptian afterlife to the return of their PJ Nights, there’s something for curious minds of all ages.

The museum’s biggest upcoming event, Creatures of the Night at the Museum, is inspired by Soulful Creatures: Animal Mummies in Ancient Egypt, an exhibition on loan from the Brooklyn Museum and currently on view at the Berkshire Museum through January 17, 2027. Designed for adult audiences, this escape room-style experience challenges participants to comple a series of tasks and puzzles to reach their final destination: the Field of Reeds.

This event is $25 for Berkshire Museum members and $30 for the general public. Cash bar and light refreshments will be available throughout the event. Event runs Friday, Nov. 6, 5:30 – 8:00PM. Pre-registration is encouraged.

For those looking for more child-focused programming, the museum will be bringing its popular PJ Night back to the museum on Friday, Nov. 13, 5:30 – 7:30PM. This FREE event features guest readers from across the community, including library leaders, educators, and local advocates for literacy.

Families will be able to enjoy dedicated reading spaces throughout the museum, and every child in attendance will receive a free book to take home courtesy of United Way. Readers will be stationed in galleries across the museum, sharing stories that connect to exhibits inside the museum and the surrounding community. Guests will also be able to create their own take-home bookmark in a hands-on craft activity.

For Halloween-themed fun can visit the museum on Saturday, Oct. 31, for their Mad! Science Shows at 11:00AM and 2:00PM. During this all-ages program, attendees will see a show focusing on "crazy" experiments, led by one of the museum's educators.

Guests are encouraged to come in costume. Program is $5 plus general admission. Pre-registration is also encouraged for this event.

Pittsfield Holiday Inn Closure Continues; Layoffs Reported

By Sabrina DammsiBerkshires Staff
PITTSFIELD, Mass. — More than a month after the Holiday Inn & Suites abruptly closed its doors, reports have emerged of employee layoffs.

The hotel has been closed since Sept. 25, when the last of its three elevators broke down. The 101 Restaurant & Bar, located inside the hotel, has also been a casualty of the closure, temporarily shutting its doors while repairs are underway.

Now, The Berkshire Eagle reports that 20 hotel employees across all departments have been laid off and it remains unknown when the hotel will reopen amidst ongoing issues with the building. The Holiday Inn & Suites declined to comment to iBerkshires' inquiries.

According to The Eagle, hotel facilities manager Pete Leidt said approximately five employees remain on staff and expressed hope that those who were laid off could return when the hotel reopens.

When the elevator stopped working, emergency medical technicians and firefighters assisted more than half a dozen people with mobility disabilities down the stairs, Building Commissioner Rian Dowd previously told iBerkshires.

"So with the no working elevators, we shut the building down," she said.

The central downtown, 12-story hotel has nearly 180 guest rooms. Massachusetts requires public multi-level buildings and facilities to have elevator access.
