    The Department of Community Development Recreation Program will be conducting the annual North Pole Calling Program, a special call from Santa, on Wednesday, Dec. 17, and Thursday, Dec. 18, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Signup forms  (through the school, city clerk's office or www.cityofpittsfield.org) must be returned by Wednesday, Dec. 17.

    NAMI of Berkshire County is collecting for gift bags for the psychiatric ward at Berkshire Medical Center. Donation checks or items such as healthy individually wrapped snacks or chocolates, playing cards, games, puzzles and gum can be dropped off at the office at 333 East St., Room 417, Monday through Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Credit card donations can be made by calling 413-443-1666 during office hours or at namibc.org. The deadline to donate or drop off items is Thursday, Dec. 18.

    The Department of Public Works announces that sand piles have been placed at the Barker Road fire station, the Peck's Road fire station and the Williams Street Plaza. Residents are requested to limit their pickups to 50 pounds (one 5-gallon pail) per visit.
