Paul B. Litano

PITTSFIELD -- Paul B. Litano, 79, of 7 State St. died yesterday. Born in Pittsfield on Jan. 11, 1922, son of Frank and Elvera Tramentozzi Litano, he attended local schools. He earned his general equivalency diploma at the age of 57 and received his diploma in March from Pittsfield High School at a special veterans' graduation service. An Army veteran of World War II, he served in the European theater and was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds he received in Gotham, France, on Aug. 9, 1944. Mr. Litano was employed as a cloth cutter at the former Ken Whitmore and the former Stratton Coat companies, with a total of 25 years of service. He later was employed as a toll collector for the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority, retiring in 1982 after 18 years. He was a communicant of Mount Carmel Church, a past commander of Chapter 15 of the Disabled American Veterans and a member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart. He was the first commander and adjutant of the Italian American War Veterans and a member of American Legion Persip Post 68 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 448. He also was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks and the United Commercial Travelers. He leaves his wife, the former Marion J. Stellano, whom he married July 25, 1942; three daughters, Paula Kettles and Marie Martini, both of Pittsfield, and Anna Smith of Adams; a brother, Philip D. Litano of Pittsfield; seven grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Paul B. Litano, 79, died Oct. 5, 2001. Calling hours will be Monday from 4 to 7 at DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME. The funeral will be held Tuesday at 10:15 at the funeral home, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 at Mount Carmel Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home. The family will receive friends after the burial at All Souls' Church, Pembroke Avenue.
