Ilya G. Olshever

Ilya G. Olshever, 88, of 140 Melbourne Road, 3280 Melbourne Place, Pittsfield, MA, died Sunday, January 7, 2001 at the Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, MA. She was the widow of Isidore Olshever a former educator in the New York City School systems. He died in August of 1978. She was born in Odessa, Russia on December 19, 1912, a daughter of the late Abraham & Frederika Gill. She came to the United States with her mother in the early 1920’s and settled with family in Buffalo, New York where she attended schools. She then graduated from Hunter College in New York City, New York. She was employed for several years as the office manager for a Swiss Watch Company in New York City. From the 1950’s to 1990 she was the New York City Representative for the Sydney, Australia Morning Herald Newspaper and the 7 Network Television Station in Sydney, Australia. After retiring she moved to Williamstown, MA to be with her family. Mrs. Olshever had an on going and great concern for social justice and along with her late husband was a lover of the arts and was a collector of art including several sculptures. She also was an enthusiastic vegetarian in her later years. Survivors include her Daughter: Helen Olshever of Williamstown, MA and her son-in-law : David Fowle of Williamstown, MA (2) grandsons: Nathan Olshever Fowle and Jesse Olshever Fowle both of Williamstown, MA. Private Funeral Services of Ilya G. Olshever will take place at a later date. There are no calling hours.
