Gladys M. Allard, 78
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Gladys Markland Allard, 78, of 390 Walker St. died Monday, Dec. 10, 2001, at Sweet Brook Care Centers in Williamstown.
Born in Westhoughton, England, on July 5, 1923, daughter of David and Gertrude Jolly Markland, she moved to North Adams at the age of 5 and attended the former St. Joseph's School. She graduated from Drury High School in 1941.
Mrs. Allard was employed as a home health aide for the Visiting Nurse Association of Northern Berkshire, retiring in 1990. She also had been employed by the former Arnold Print Works and the Northern Berkshire Credit Bureau.
She was a communicant of St. Francis' Church, where she was a former member of its Rosary Society. She enjoyed handicrafts, including needlepoint, knitting, quilting and tole painting.
Her husband, Conrad H. Allard, whom she married July 12, 1947, in St. Francis' Church, died March 12, 1993.
She leaves a daughter, Andrea Farrow of Billerica; four sons, David Allard, Robert Allard, Michael Allard and Gary Allard, all of North Adams; a brother, Robert Markland of Adams, and five grandchildren. She was predeceased by a sister, Mary Markland.
FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Mrs. Allard will be Thursday at 8:15 from FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 at St. Francis of Assisi Church, North Adams. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery, North Adams.
Calling hours at the funeral home will be Wednesday from 4 to 7. Memorial donations are suggested for the North Adams chapter of the Massachusetts Citizens for Life or to the Western Massachusetts Alzheimer's Association through the funeral home.
