Joseph B. Dawood

Joseph B. Dawood, 87, 203 Great Barrington Rd., West Stockbridge, died January 11, 2001 at the Berkshire Medical Center. He was born in Beruit, Lebanon on February 8,1913 moving to Poughkeepsie, N.Y. He was a WW II veteran of the U.S. Air Force having flown in 52 missions. He was a radarman aboard B-52 bombers was stationed in China and flew in night air raids over Japan. From 1946 to 1948 he was the proprietor of Shaker's Package Store in Mi11 River, MA. Moving to Manchester, CT to start Beshara Vending Company which he operated till his retirement in 1980 when he moved to West Stockbridqe. He and his wife ran the Double E Dairy Bar in Manchester, CT from 1956 to 1959. A popular place for young people and which was written about in a feature last year in the Manchester Papers. He was a life member of the James A. Modolo Post #8348. He more recently had worked at the K Mart in Great Barrington where he was well known. He is survived by his wife of 52 years Margaret T. Johnston Dawood whom he married July 3,1948 at our Lady of the Valley Church in Sheffield. One son, Edward J. Dawood, of East Hartford,CT, l daughter, Elizabeth V.'Betty' Balkan and her husband Mark, 4 sisters Vera Burch of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., Madeline Gilroy of Virginia, Janet Collins of Long 1sland, N.Y ., Marie Jacobson of Maryland, 1 grandaughter, Kathryn E. Baklan of Manchester, CT. He was predeceased by his mother and step father Mildred and Michael A. Mokarzel and 1 brother, Edward Hokarzel. Funeral Services for Joseph B. Dawood, 87,who died January 11, 2001, will be Monday, January 15 at the HICKEY-ROY FUNERAL HOME 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA at 10 AM to be followed by the Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of the Valley Church at 11 AM with Rev. Frederick Heberle, Pastor officiating. Burial will be in Mill River Cemetery. Family will receive family and friends on Sunday, January 14 from 4-8 PM at the HICKEY-ROY FUNERAL HOME.
