Ethel H. Deane, 80
GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — Ethel H. Deane, 80, of Bernard Gibbons Drive, Housatonic, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002, at Fairview Hospital.
Born in New Marlborough on June 20, 1921, daughter of Ralph Henry and Ethel H. Strevell Goewey, she attended schools in New Marlborough and Egremont. After her mother died, she was raised by her father and stepmother, Harriet.
Mrs. Deane was a longtime employee of the former Rising Paper Co., retiring as a machine operator in 1986.
She owned a vegetable garden and enjoyed reading, canning and working puzzles. She also enjoyed visiting with neighbors and friends every morning at McDonald's.
Her first marriage, to Wallace Reynolds, ended in divorce in 1944.
Her husband, Robert Deane, whom she married in 1946, died in 1986.
She leaves three sons, Wallace Reynolds of Housatonic, Ralph H. Reynolds of Great Barrington and Richard Reynolds of Pittsfield; two daughters, Myrna Marks of Housatonic and Roberta Loring of Otis; 18 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a son, John Deane Sr. in 1989.
FUNERAL NOTICE — Funeral services will be conducted Friday, Jan. 11, at 11 a.m. from Finnerty & Stevens Funeral Home, Great Barrington, by the Rev. Charles VanAusdall, pastor of First Congregational Church. The family will receive friends from 4 until 7 at the funeral home on Thursday, Jan. 10.
