Laura M. West

Laura M. West, 81, of 254 Notch Road died Tuesday at North Adams Regional Hospital, where she was admitted Jan. 8. Born in North Adams on May 8, 1920, daughter of Alfred and Anne Hollis Davison, she graduated from Drury High School. She and her husband, Charles, owned and operated West's Variety and Package Store on State Road for many years. They purchased the variety store business from Mr. West's father in the early 1950s and founded West's Liquor Store in 1958 and operated it until selling it to their son, Robert, in 1988. She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church and its Altar Guild. She was also a member of the North Adams Garden Club and a former member of the North Adams Country Club. Her husband, Charles E. West, whom she married May 11, 1940, died Oct. 3, 1999. She leaves a son, Robert A. West of North Adams; two daughters, Kathy A. Delisle of Clarksburg and Susan E. O'Brien of Charlotte, Vt.; a brother, William Davison of Lewiston, Maine; a sister, Dorothy Bliss of Stamford, Vt.; seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Charles E. West II. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in St. John's Episcopal Church, North Adams. The Rev. Donald G. Place, rector, will officiate. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery, North Adams. There will be no calling hours. The family requests the omission of flowers and suggests donations in her memory be made to St. John's Episcopal Church through AUGE-SAN SOUCIE-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, 46 North Church St., North Adams, MA 01247, which is in charge of arrangements.
