Colwyn H. Hurst

Colwyn H. Hurst, 81, of St. Ann's Ave. died Saturday at Curtis Manor in Dalton. Born in Lenox on April 24, 1920, son of Herbert F. and Mary Ann Radley Hurst, he was a 1938 graduate of Lenox High School. An Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, he served with the 817th Engineering Aviation Battalion in North Africa and Europe. He entered the service on March 3, 1942, and was discharged on Oct. 8, 1945. He was employed as a cabinetmaker by C.M. Goodrich & Sons in Pittsfield for many years, retiring in 1987. Mr. Hurst was a lifelong member of the Church on the Hill and was a member of its choir. His wife, the former Marguerite Guillou, whom he married in October 1945, died in 1973. He leaves a son, Dr. Lawrence C. Hurst of East Setauket, N.Y.; a brother, Trevor F. Hurst of Brookesville, Fla.; and two grandchildren. Calling hours at ROCHE FUNERAL HOME will be Wednesday from 7 to 9. A private family funeral will be conducted Thursday by Mr. Hurst's nephew, Pastor David F. Hurst. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery. Those who wish may make donations in Mr. Hurst's memory to the charity of their choice in care of the funeral home, 120 Main St., Lenox, MA 01240.
