Stephnel Emprimo

Stephnel Joseph Emprimo, 87, of Lumbert Cross Road, Southfield, died Wednesday at Great Barrington Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, where he had resided since December. He was a former New Marlboro cemetery commissioner and took pride in maintaining the grounds of each cemetery. Born in New Marlboro on Sept. 5, 1914, son of Modesto Emprimo and Sarafina Jugler Emprimo Testa, he attended local schools. He was employed in various operations of the Turner and Cook rawhide and whip factory for more than 45 years until its closing. In 1995, he retired with 19 years of service from the housekeeping department of Fairview Hospital. He was a longtime member and former assistant chief of the New Marlboro Fire and Rescue Squad. He also was involved with the maintenance of United Church of New Marlboro for many years. He enjoyed fishing with his grandsons. He and his wife, the former Olive Crine, were married April 14, 1938, in Melonville, N.Y. Besides his wife of 63 years, he leaves three sisters, Dephine Bianci of Canaan, Conn., and Catherine Costello and Christina Gilbert, both of Torrington, Conn.; four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. A daughter, Clarissa Ellen Purdy, died in 1995; a sister, Angelena Coons; and two brothers, Modesto Emprimo and Francis Emprimo. The family will receive friends Sunday, Feb. 10, from 2 to 5 p.m. at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME. A private service will be held in Lee Memorial Cemetery. Contributions in Mr. Emprimo's memory may be made to the New Marlboro Fire and Rescue Squad in care of the funeral home, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230.
