William J. Flynn, 63

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. —

William J. Flynn, 63 of North Adams, loving husband and father, died Friday evening May 26, 2023 at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield after a heroic battle with cancer.

He was born in Pittsfield on February 26, 1960, the son of the late Cornelius J. and Dorothy H. (Biron) Flynn. He grew up in Pittsfield and attended school there, graduating from Taconic High School in 1978. He later graduated from Johnson and Wales University with a degree in culinary arts.

Bill served in the Army’s 82nd Airborne from 1978 until his Honorable Discharge in 1981. Bill loved to jump out of airplanes. It was one of the most exciting times of his life being in the service.

Bill spent his career as a chef, working in the hospitality industry starting off after the service working in Florida helping open up many new restaurants in the Newport Richey area. He then decided to come back to Massachusetts and started his own bakery in Lee, in later years he worked at Waubeeka Golf links, The Holiday Inn North Adams and Cranwell Resort in Lenox.

He was a communicant of St. Charles Church, Pittsfield, where in younger days served as an Altar boy. He was a member of the Adams Turners and the American Legion North Adams.

Bill was a kind and giving man with a big heart and a great sense of humor, He host large events and memorials for friends and family. He volunteered at local food pantries in the area, and prepared and served holiday meals for the Veterans at the American Legion in North Adams for many years.

Bill enjoyed traveling, fishing, golfing, motorcycling and playing pranks on his kids and grandkids. Bill’s joy and treasure were truly his children and grandchildren whom he so dearly loved.

He is survived by his loving wife, Cheryl A. Prevey whom he married in 2021; his daughter Brittney L. Flynn of Pittsfield; two sons, William O. Flynn and Daniel J. Flynn, both of Lee, MA; a stepson, Michael Robinson of Adams; three brothers, Clifford Flynn( wife Joanne), Edward Flynn (wife Lorrie), both of Pittsfield, and Joseph Flynn of Lee; four sisters, Linda Flynn, Carol DeFilippo, Sheila Flynn and Theresa Flynn, all of Pittsfield; four grandchildren, Annabelle Whelan, James Steele, Zaiden Robinson and Nyah Robinson, as well as several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Bill’s Life will be held at the American Legion - 91 American Legion Drive, North Adams on Friday, June 23, 2023 at 5pm. Bring a dish to share. There are no calling hours.

Cheryl, I am so very, very sorry to hear of Bill's passing. He loved to through out wise cracks at you to make you laugh. That is the way I will always remember him.
