Helen L. Ziarnik

Helen L. Ziarnik, 83, of 141 Kittredge Road died yesterday at Hillcrest Commons Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born in Adams on Oct. 17, 1917, daughter of John and Josephine Orlwaski Ryczek, she attended local schools until her teen-age years, when she moved to Boston with her family. She returned to Adams in 1934. Mrs. Ziarnik was first employed by the former Berkshire Fine Spinning Co. in Adams. During the war, she worked at GE. After the war, she and her husband operated William and Helen Ziarnik Electrolux Vacuum Cleaners Sales and Service. She retired in 1982. She was a communicant of Holy Family Church and a member of its Rosary Sodality, and enjoyed painting, landscaping, growing flowers, crocheting and traveling. She and her husband, William S. Ziarnik, were married June 17, 1939, at St. Stanislaus' Church in Adams. Besides her husband, she leaves a sister, Caroline J. Hermanski of Pittsfield. Additional survivors include several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by a sister, Mary MacHaffie, and three brothers, Stanley, Theodore and Edmund Ryczek. The funeral will be Wednesday, Jan. 31, at 8 a.m. from FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, 5 Elm St., followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 at Holy Family Church celebrated by the Rev. Eugene A. Suszek, pastor. Burial will follow in the family plot at St. Stanislaus Kostka Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours at the funeral home will be tomorrow, Jan. 30, from 4 to 7. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Holy Family Church in care of the funeral home.
