Harold Taskin, 81

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - Harold Taskin, 81, of 101 Chenaille Terrace died Sunday morning, Jan. 28, 2001, at his home. He was a longtime member of the Northern Berkshire business community and a civic leader. He served on the Conservation Commission, the Greylock Advisory Board and the former Selective Service Board, and longtime corporator of Northern Berkshire Healthcare. Born in North Adams on April 18, 1919, a son of Nathan and Anna Golden Taskin, he attended schools in North Adams and graduated from Drury High School with the class of 1938. An Army veteran of World War II, he served as a first lieutenant with the 32nd Headquarters, 4th Army Headquarters Detachment, from Oct. 10, 1942, to Jan. 28, 1946. He was awarded the WWII Victory Medal, American Defense Service Medal and the American Campaign Medal. Mr. Taskin joined his family in the ownership and operations of the Taskin Furniture & Glass Co. and remained with the business until it sold on Dec. 31, 1988. He continued to work as a real estate agent and broker in Berkshire County. He was a lifelong member of Congregation Beth Israel and a trustee of its Building Committee. He also was a member of Jewish War Veterans and Frank R. Stiles, American Legion Post 125. He was a member of the Northern Berkshire Retired Men's Club and Greylock-Lafayette AF&AM Lodge of Masons. He and his wife, the former Susan M. Carr, were married on Oct. 27, 1946, in North Adams. Besides his wife of 54 years, he leaves nieces and nephews Deborah Brooks, Michael and Jennifer Towler, Allyson and Stephen Towler-Grayman, David Towler, Beth and Gary Farber, Karen and Bill Morneault, Trina Clark, Howard and Ingrid Taskin and Richard Taskin, amd grandnieces and grandnephews. His siblings Helen Katz and Albert Taskin and Stanley Taskin predeceased him. FUNERAL NOTICE - Funeral services for Mr. Taskin will take place Monday morning at 11 a.m. at Congregation Beth Israel, 265 Church St. Burial will follow in Beth Israel Cemetery in Clarksburg. There will be no calling hours. Memorial week will take place at the family residence, 101 Chenaille Terrace, Monday through Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 5 to 8 p.m. Omission of flowers requested; memorial donations are suggested for Congregation Beth Israel or the donor's choice through Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, MA 01247.
