James A. Barrett, Jr., 89
ADAMS, Mass. — James A Barrett Jr, 89, passed away on April 30,2025 at Berkshire Medical Center after a brief illness. Jim was born on November 19, 1935, in Greenfield MA, son of James and Helen Wall Barrett.
He grew up in the Northampton MA area and attended local schools. He was graduated from Northampton High School and earned a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Massachusetts. Jim worked as the plant manager for the Proctor and Gamble-Tampax factory in Northampton, and when that plant closed became the manager of the plant in Claremont N.H.
Upon the death of his mother, Jim spent many weekends with his uncle and aunt, Dr. William and Anna Barrett Roche in Adams. Upon Jim’s retirement he moved to Adams into the cherished home built by his grandfather on Summer St. Jim had a comprehensive knowledge of the Barrett family history and the legacy of the Barrett family in Adams.
Jim married Louise Gallivan on November 19,1985. They travelled extensively through Europe, the Caribbean, New York and New England. They often enjoyed cruising on sunny days with the top down throughout the Berkshires. When Louise was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, Jim became her caregiver for several years. Louise passed away Feb 3, 2020. After the death of his beloved wife, Jim was supported by his Summer Street neighbors and friends, allowing him to continue to live independently. He enjoyed and appreciated the nightly calls from his cousin and his friends.
Jim is survived by his cousins Terry Bodolay and her husband Jim of CT, Peggy Barrett of MA, sister-in -law Jane Gallivan of ME and FL, nephews Thomas Gallivan of VA, Sean Gallivan of ME, niece Joanna Gallivan of Adams, great niece Sophia Gallivan of VA and great nephews Daniel Gallivan of VA and Aaron Gallivan of ME.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday May 30th at 11:00 AM in the PACIOREK FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St. Adams. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery. A calling hour will be held on Friday from 10 AM until the service at 11:00 AM in the funeral home.
