John D. Kopala, 64

ADAMS, Mass. —  

Mr. John D. Kopala, 64, of Springfield, formerly of Adams, died on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by his family.

He was born in Adams on January 14, 1961, a son of the late Stanley and Sylvia (Dubis) Kopala. He attended schools in Adams and graduated from Hoosac Valley High School with the class of 1978. He had also attended Berkshire Community College.

John was a carpenter having worked with his father and brother. He had also worked for the former General Electric Co. and Beloit Jones.

In his earlier years, John was an avid skier, working at Brodie Mountain as a ski instructor on winter weekends. He also liked to snowmobile. He loved spending time outdoors with his children, mushroom hunting, building trails, walking the beach looking for shells at Old Orchard, and sitting around a good campfire. He loved a good clambake and polish food.

He is survived by his daughters, Stephanie Dix and her husband Daniel of Warren, VT and Jacqueline Hoffman and her husband Ryan of Adams; two granddaughters, Sierra and Hazel Dix; his sister Nancy Clermont and her husband Eric of Adams; his brother David Kopala and his wife Pamela of Bennington; and by three nephews and a niece, Eric W. Clermont, Jr., Steven Clermont and Matthew and Julia Kopala

He was predeceased by three brothers, Steven, Joseph and James Kopala.

Per John’s wishes there are no funeral services.

The family would like to thank the staff at Mercy Medical Center for the care John received in his final days and their support of the family.

The PACIOREK FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St., Adams, is in charge of arrangements.

I was heartbroken to see this. We sure had a lot of fun at Brodie. Although I haven’t seen John in years, I always remembered our younger years and how much fun we all had. My condolences to his family.
