Thomas C. Simmons, 73

Thomas C. Simmons, 73, of Otis, passed away on Monday morning, June 30, at Berkshire Medical Center.

Tom was born in Pittsfield on Oct. 18, 1951. He was the middle child (of five children) of Harmon and Mary (Schaefer) Simmons. He graduated from Lee High School in 1969 and from Westfield State College with a degree in Business Administration. Tom began his career with Kimberly Clark Corporation in Lee and retired as Purchasing Manager in 1994.
Tom married his best friend (his words) Donna Thomas of Otis. They were together as best pals for 12 years, before finally taking the leap to get married in 1981. They spent 56 fun-filled years traveling in their RV, exploring new places, sitting by the campfire and always landing at the beach.

Model trains were a passion of his. Tom would craft train sets with passengers galore, detailed buildings that even had tiny oil paintings on the walls! He was extremely proud of his tractors and had quite a collection. They were always polished and given the feather duster treatment after each use. Each one had its specialty to help keep the yard perfectly manicured. The care and pride he showed in his home could not be missed.

He is predeceased by his father Harmon and his mother Mary. Tom was exceptionally proud when Mary was posthumously awarded the Congressional Gold Medal in April 2024 for being recognized as a "Rosie the Riveter" welder at Brooklyn Navy Yard during World War II.

Tom is survived by his wife Donna, of Otis; one son: Tyler Simmons, of Pittsfield; one brother: Michael Simmons and his wife Patricia, of Lee; two sisters: Louise Stanton, of Monterey, MA and Alice Vreeland, of Moneta, VA.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Kelly Funeral Home on Thursday, July 10, 11AM. The family will receive friends from 10AM until the start of the service. A Celebration of Life will follow at noon at the Greenock Country Club in Lee.

Friends wishing to make any donation may send it in Tom’s memory to the Berkshire Humane Society in c/o the Kelly Funeral Home 3 Main Street, Lee, MA 01238. If you would like to leave a message of condolence or share pictures, please visit our web site at www.kellyfuneralhome.net
