Margaret "Peggy" Ames, 91

Margaret “Peggy” (Benoit) Ames, 91, of Clarksburg, die peacefully in her sleep, in the early hours of August 27, 2025, after a lengthy battle with COPD.

Peggy was born in Clarksburg, on March 3rd, 1934, to Joseph and Marjorie (Parmenter) Benoit. She attended schools in Clarksburg and North Adams, graduating from Drury High School in 1951.

In her early life Peggy worked in a number of the factories that were in North Adams. On May 13, 1954, she married Robert Edward Ames and soon her full-time job was homemaker and mother. Together they raised their four children, Wendy (Ronald) Duprea of Clarksburg, Cynthia Duplisea of North Adams, Lloyd Ames of Clarksburg, and Robert Jr. with whom she made her home.

Until her illness prevented it, Peggy was in the yard, tending her gardens - vegetable, and flower. She was always active. When she was no longer able to move about freely, she kept her mind active with crossword puzzles and watching the many birds that came to her feeders. This past summer Peggy was thrilled to watch a pair of bluebirds raise their young in a house she provided and bring them to her feeder to feast on the variety of treats provided for them. When you see a bluebird, think of Peggy!

In addition to her children, Peggy leaves her grandsons, Heath Hebert and his wife Lorraine; Adam Brazeau and his wife Jessica; great grandchildren, Maddison, Alex, Morgan, & Jerod.

She is survived by her brother, William Benoit and his wife Dorothy of Sugarland, TX., as well as her beloved nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

Peggy was predeceased by her husband Robert, her sister June Jacobsen, her brother, Richard Benoit, her Granddaughter Brandy-lee Hebert, and her Great Granddaughter Avery Mae Hebert.

Peggy’s Family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the caregivers from Hospice Care in the Berkshires, in particular Nurse Debbie and Aide Laurie who made “the intrusion into her home by strangers” more like a visit from good friends. We will be forever grateful for your kindness and ability to make her not feel she had lost all her dignity.

As per Peggy’s wishes there will be no calling hours or service. Burial will be private.

If you would like to honor Peggy’s memory with a donation in her name, she would be grateful if you chose one of these deserving organizations that were dear to her: Hospice Care in the Berkshires, Alzheimer's Association or Dakin Humane Society Spay Neuter Program.

My sweet cousins and family,

Sorry to hear from Aunt Peg’s passing. Grateful to have spent time with her recently and to see that smile and laugh that I will fondly remember her by. Those bluebirds will be even more meaningful to me now. You are all in my thoughts.

Love Lisa
