Lawrence F. Ray, 73

Lawrence Francis Ray, 73 of North Adams died on Thursday, January 8, 2026 at North Adams Regional Hospital.

Lawrence was born in Pittsfield, MA on October 1, 1952, a son of the late Francis J. Ray & Helen Mae (LaVigne) Ray. He attended schools in Pittsfield including Taconic High School and graduated with the class of 1970. He was a veteran of the United State Navy during Vietnam. Lawrence worked for the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation as a District Fire Warden from April 1975 to October 2008.

Lawrence leaves his wife, Marcia Jean (Saunders) Ray, brothers Paul and Dennis Ray, sisters Patricia Mellace and Debra Ray. He also leaves stepchildren Kate Merrigan (Nicholas Fahey), Erin Merrigan (Evan Webb), and Meghan Merrigan (Mark Charland), step grandchildren, Orla Fahey-Merrigan, Oisin Fahey Merrigan and Walker Joseph Charland as well as many nieces, nephews and his beloved mini dachshund, Ruby. He was predeceased by a step grandchild, Griffin Francis Charland and beloved dogs Marla and Rocky.

I met Larry while a member of the Adams Forest Wardens. Fought many fires together. Became good friends. Larry was my best man at my wedding. He was a top notch guy, would do anything for anyone. He will be missed, but the memories will live on forever.
