Douglas W. Wright, 75

Douglas Walter Wright, 75, of Stamford, Vermont, passed away on January 24, 2026, at Albany Medical Center following a brief illness. Born July 9, 1950, he was the son of the late Charles E. Wright and Mary (Roberts) Wright.

Doug grew up in Clarksburg, Massachusetts, and graduated from Drury High School and North Adams State College. He began his career as an elementary school teacher in Hancock and Savoy before transitioning to law enforcement, serving as a police officer in Bennington, Vermont, and later with the Vermont Department of Corrections. Doug also proudly served in the U.S. Navy and the Air National Guard for 27 years.

A lifelong outdoorsman, Doug loved hunting, fishing, and tending his garden. He was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Shaftsbury and Berkshire County Seabees Association. He also served his community as a selectman in Stamford, Vermont.

Doug is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mary Lou (Willette) Wright; three sons: Jeffrey and his wife Jessica of Westborough, Massachusetts; Adam and his wife Sara of Essex Junction, Vermont; and Matthew Wright, currently serving in the U.S. Navy. He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren – Jacqueline and Henry, and his faithful dog, Pablo.

 

Funeral Services for Douglas Walter Wright will take place on Saturday January 31, 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Stamford Community Church in Stamford, VT. Calling Hours are Friday January 30, 2026 from 4 PM to 7PM at the Flynn & Dagnoli Funeral Home, WEST CHAPELS, 521 West Main St. North Adams, MA. Burial will take place in the spring with full military honors in family plot in Millard Cemetery, Stamford, VT.
