Maureen A. O'Brien, 82

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. —  Maureen Ann O’Brien, 82, of North Adams, MA, passed away peacefully on Thursday February 19, 2026. She was born in Boston, MA, on June 13, 1943, the daughter of James Joseph and Alice Mary (Cahill) O’Brien. She graduated from Brighton High School and went on to earn a master’s degree in sociology from the former Cambridge University.

Maureen dedicated many years of her life to caring for others as a registered nurse in the health care field until her retirement.

A lifelong reader, she was an active member of the book club at the North Adams Public Library. She had a deep appreciation for Chinese art and poetry and loved traveling the world. Above all, Maureen cherished her role as a grandmother and never missed an opportunity to support her grandchildren in their sports and hobbies.

She is survived by her daughter, Deirdre Forde of Florida, MA; four grandchildren—Dylan (Christina) Forde, Emberley Forde, Erik Vazquez, and Connor Vazquez—and her great granddaughter, Annette. She also leaves her sister, Karen (Robert) Famiglio of Media, PA; her brother, Paul (Anna) O’Brien of Havelock, NC; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Geraldine Page.
