Margaret Morandi, 82

CHESHIRE, Mass. — Margaret Anne (Spafford) Morandi, 82 of Cheshire, MA died on Thursday March 12, 2026 at Williamstown Commons.
She was born in Holyoke, MA on October 28, 1943, a daughter of Calvin Preston Spafford and Alma (Thornton) Spafford. She graduated from South Hadley High School and received her bachelor’s degree from North Adams State College.
Margaret began her teaching career in the North Adams Public School System. She then became a fourth-grade teacher at Cheshire Elementary School, where she remained until her retirement. Many former students still fondly remember her as their favorite teacher. She was a member of the Cheshire United Methodist Church.
Margaret was a piano player and would often play for the family during holidays and get togethers. She was also an artist who made many paintings, drawings and other media. She was talented in quilting and other forms of arts and crafts. She made and donated handmade teddy bears for hospitalized children.
She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who found her greatest joy in spending time with her family.
Survivors include her husband, Benjamin Morandi Jr whom she married on June 26th, 1965, and her two sons, Peter Morandi and his fiancée, Stacie Vigiard of Adams, MA and Steven Morandi and his wife, Rachel Lapidus of Campbell, CA. She also leaves four grandchildren, Kayla Morandi, Sarah Morandi, Oliver Morandi and Fiona Morandi; her sister, Andrea Hart and her husband, William R. Hart Jr of Little Elm, TX and her brother, Earle Spafford and his wife, Janet Spafford of Marlborough, NH; her nieces and nephews including Dennis, Eric, Jodi, Kristen, Douglas, Denise, Marcus, and Deborah; and her sister in law, Joan Morandi.

NOTICE: The funeral for Margaret Morandi will be Friday April 24, 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Cheshire United Methodist Church, 197 Church St. Cheshire, MA. Burial will follow in the Cheshire Cemetery. Calling hours at the church will be Friday morning April 24 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM.
