Elizabeth Beckwith, 96
ADAMS, Mass. — Elizabeth Beckwith, 96, formerly of 5 Pinnacle Drive and a former longtime North Adams resident, died Monday, March 11, 2002, at Williamstown Commons, where she had resided since 1989.
Born in Spaniards Bay, Newfoundland, on Oct. 1, 1905, daughter of Jacob and Alice Babcock Vokey, she attended schools there and came to the United States in 1920.
Mrs. Beckwith was employed at the former Clark Biscuit Co. in North Adams and Brightwater Paper Co. for several years. She was most recently employed for 15 years in the bindery department at the former Lamb Printing Co. in North Adams, retiring in 1970.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, and enjoyed her family and cooking.
Her husband, Leon F. Beckwith, whom she married June 2, 1923, in Shorham Vt., died May 12, 1977.
She leaves three daughters, Phyllis I. Roy of Bluff City, Tenn., Florence A. Longstaff of Williamstown and Elizabeth Horsfall of North Adams; a brother, Gordon Vokey of Toronto; 15 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by three sons, Donald R. Beckwith, Leon P. Beckwith and Edward P. Beckwith.
FUNERAL NOTICE — Funeral services for Mrs. Beckwith will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in First United Methodist Church. The Rev. Susan Stewart, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery, North Adams.
Calling hours at AUGE-SAN SOUCIE-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, North Adams, will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in her memory be made to the First United Methodist Church through the funeral home, 46 North Church St., North Adams, MA 01247.
