SAVOY, Mass. —  Mrs. Carey Rae (Andrews) Montville, 89, of Savoy, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at Charlene Manor Extended Care in Greenfield. Carey was born in Adams on October 3, 1936, the daughter of the late Edson and Ora (Remington) Andrews. She attended schools in Savoy and Adams and graduated from the former Adams High School.

Carey devoted much of her life to her home and family. She was an avid gardener, an exceptional housekeeper, and a talented craftswoman who especially enjoyed crocheting. She was also a wonderful cook and baker, delighting family and friends with her coveted crescent rolls and her signature spaghetti cakes, a treasured family recipe passed down through the generations. She had a deep love for animals and found great joy in caring for them.

Though petite in stature, Carey possessed remarkable strength and independence. Following the passing of her husband, Paul V. Montville, whom she married on December 16, 1961, she continued to live on her own in the hills of Savoy for more than 30 years. Paul passed away on December 12, 1993. Carey remained fiercely self-reliant, snow-blowing her own driveway and mowing her own lawn until just a few years ago—a testament to her determination and resilient spirit. Carey was a longtime member of the Plainfield Congregational Church, the Plainfield Grange, and the Hillside Agricultural Committee. For many years, she was a familiar and welcome presence at the Cummington Fair Grange Hall, where she volunteered alongside members of her family.

She is survived by her incredibly devoted and loyal brother, Dale Andrews of Turners Falls, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews who will cherish her memory. In addition to her husband, Carey was predeceased by her brothers, Sydney and Kenneth Andrews, and her sisters, Phyllis Gawle and Carolyn Carver.
