NORTH ADAMS, Mass. —  Marlene Moon (85) left this world unexpectedly on September 20, 2026, to help God as a “supervisor” of projects that will need direction under her care in heaven.

We know her chair was ready for her to watch her nephew Christopher work on projects and get that one tool, which most of the time was the wrong tool and will have to go back and get another. Sorry Christopher, she didn’t have time to make an apple pie.

On this earth, she has a lot of people that will love her forever. Her husband of 63 years, Richard Garfield Moon, Sr whom she married on June 15, 1963. Their first story began when Marlene was forgotten at the house on the day of the wedding. Richard and everyone were at the church, “Where’s Marlene?”, her dad had to go and pick her up.

Marlene leaves her two sons, Richard & Tammy Moon of Conway, SC. Jason Moon of North Adams with whom she resided. Her “so loved Monkey” granddaughter, Amanda & Thomas Bodden of Shrewsbury, MA. Her sisters, Sheila Bowes of Wells, ME and Gloria Jowett of Hollywood, FL. Two other sisters were predeceased.

Marlene was educated in the Historic Blackinton district and the City of North Adams. She attended Archer Elementary School in Blackinton. Brayton Hill in North Adams and graduated from Drury High School “On the hill”.

She started her work career at the Wall Streeter Shoe Company on Union Street (Currently, The Windsor Mill) where she met Richard. She was a school bus driver for several years for the J.Tiegens & Sullivan Bus Lines. She always loved bringing the children of North Adams and Williamstown to school.

Marlene’s “most noticeable” job was at Big Y as your personal associate in the cashier area. Along with Alice Dydowicz & Elaine Anderson they would create a joyous atmosphere as you checked out your groceries. Her laugh was so noticeable that you knew she was there and everyone would wait to have their groceries checked out and packaged by them.

Marlene loved her sports. Don’t try to interrupt her if the New York Yankees, Connecticut Huskies Basketball or now Caitlin Clark and the Fever are on tv. Derek Jeter & Aaron Judge were and are the best Yankees to wear those pinstripes. Geno Auriemma is the best college girl’s coach for the Connecticut Huskies. If you asked her; she would tell you.

She loved her bowling too. Marlene bowled in the Women’s Commercial league since its inception at Mt. Greylock Bowl and the Friday night couples league with Richard. She held a 185 average over her career and was a Berkshire County and State singles and all-events champion. She was the first Berkshire County Director of the American Junior Bowling Congress (AJBC) and then the Youth Bowling Association (YBA) and Youth American Bowling Association (YABA).

Marlene was a board member of the Salvation Army in North Adams for several years and assisted in the creation of the Blackinton Neighbors Association with the Northern Berkshire Community Coalition. She loved helping in this community.

Marlene and Richard were communicants of St. Andrew’s Chapel in Blackinton. Both were the Junior and Senior Wardens, respectively. Richard was senior but Marlene made the decisions. They took care of the church and all its maintenance and care for over 40 years. The lawn was always in tip-top shape as Marlene made sure it was mowed each week, the communion sacraments out and altar ready for Sundays. And most of all the smell of coffee brewed for the social hour.

Marlene was the proudest mom, grandmother & sister. She wouldn’t tell you, but you could tell. She waited patiently for her sister Sheila’s call every day to catch up on what’s happening in Maine and in North Adams. She never missed an event. Always asked on bowling nights, “How was bowling tonight guys?” Rick & Jason would have to explain how it went. When her sons and granddaughter walked across those graduation stages her heart was full of joy. Bringing her granddaughter to dance classes and then those dance recitals. And finally, watching Amanda being walked down the aisle and given away by her father. That filled her heart with so much love and joy along with a lot of happy tears. A treasured moment to remember forever.

It is family’s wishes the omission of flowers and donations be made to either Pop’s Cares or Northern Berkshire EMS in memory of Marlene which she loved and always donated to.
