Christopher Wondoloski, 76

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. —  Christopher Henry Wondoloski, 76, of North Adams, MA, died Sunday, October 18, 2026, at Baystate Medical Center.

He was born in Greenfield, MA, on October 13, 1950, the son of Stanley and Genevieve S. (Winiarski) Wondoloski. He graduated from the former St. Joseph’s High School in North Adams where he met the love of his life, Sharon. Chris earned his bachelor’s degree from UMass Amherst and his master’s degree in education administration from North Adams State College.

Chris taught biology and other subjects at Drury High School for over 30 years and served as chair of the Science Department. At Drury, he was a mentor to students, fellow teachers, and the community at large. Mr. Wondoloski also coached several athletic teams, including the girls’ basketball and boys’ soccer teams at Drury.

Chris was involved in the North Adams community in many capacities, including as a former coach, local author, public servant serving on local boards and commissions, and member of community organizations such as the North Adams Historical Society. He enjoyed reading, writing, learning, teaching, and handiwork, and was always working on a home maintenance project while thinking of a new story to write. Most importantly, Chris was a devoted family man who earned the cherished title of “Pop Pop.” He was selfless and always made sure that everyone in his family was taken care of.

Chris and Sharon shared a love story that stood the test of time, a bond that began when they were young and remained at the heart of their lives. Chris was 100% Polish, but after traveling to Ireland for the first time, he embraced Sharon’s Irish heritage as his own, adding another chapter to their beautiful story. Together, they also treasured the many memories made with their best friends, Susan and Russel Gilman, whether gathering at their home during the Fall Foliage Day Parade or dancing the night away at Beacon Street. These friendships, traditions, and shared moments were woven into the love story Chris and Sharon built together, one that will live on in the hearts of all who knew them.

His wife, Sharon Marie (Mulcahy) Wondoloski, died on June 13, 2020. They were married on January 17, 1970. Survivors include his daughter, Jennifer L. Peterson, of Readsboro, VT, and his son, Christopher R. Wondoloski (Maureen), of Collinsville, CT. He also leaves four grandchildren: Daelyn Peterson, Thomas Peterson, Meredith Wondoloski, and Tate Wondoloski; as well as nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son-in-law, Thomas D. Peterson, and his siblings, Judith Cheesbro, James Wondoloski, and Anthony Wondoloski.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that the community enjoy Chris’s literary works, his Ginger O’Leary mystery novels, edited by his good friends Butch and Patty Prenguber and available on Amazon. All proceeds will be donated to the Friends of the North Adams Public Library.

Chris was a high school friend and fellow basketball player and, later, a colleague teacher at the North Adams Middle School - Go Blue House! We were the rookies with Jane and Tommy Bernard rounding out our team. Chris was a joy in high school in the class of 1968 and as a fellow teacher. Forever enthusiastic and energetic, he inspired his students and colleagues. God bless you and Sharon, Chris.

My condolences to all of the Wondoloski family. It was with great sadness that I was informed of the passing of Chris. I attended St Joe Grammar and High School with Chris. We attended the University of Massachusetts together. Although as often happens, we went in different directions in life. I will always remember Chris, and the friendship we shared. Chris was always working to be the best at anything he put his mind to. So the many achievements cited in his obituary are very much how Chris lived his life. I will always remember his friendship, his honesty and caring nature, which made him such a great teacher and contributor to the community.

I am so sorry for your loss. I still yell at players on tv telling them to box out! I can hear him yelling that from the sidelines even now. I might have used a version of that in Boston a time or two.

I am surprised and saddened to read of Chris’s passing. I was his visiting nurse several years ago and he gave me a copy of his book which I read and enjoyed. He was a cool patient with a zest for life and love of his family. My heart goes out to you.

I was lucky enough to have Mr. Wondoloski as my high school science teacher twice. First for Freshman year environmental Science and again Sophomore year for Biology. He really connected with his students and made learning fun, not all teachers are like that. He was a class act in and out of the classroom. Rest easy.

I was lucky enough to be in Mr. Wondoloski's honors biology class, where a scheduling error gifted me a class of five students and "Wondo." In between learning, we had so much fun. Not only was it my favorite science class of high school, I truly felt loved and cared for by Mr. Wondoloski and that continued through the rest of my life. I'm so glad my wife got to meet him at the parade a couple of years ago. He truly was a wonderful person. My love and sympathy to his family.

Coach Wondoloski believed in me, pushed me to improve, and always put me in positions to help my team succeed. I'll never forget the extra time he spent helping me develop my skills, from dribbling to behind-the-back passes, and the confidence he built in me along the way. He taught me much more than basketball, and his impact on my life will stay with me forever. Thank you, Coach. Rest in peace.

The words are impossible to find when the heart is broken. I had Mr. Wondoloski as a teacher in middle school, and then as a friend and favorite author. To say that the world was a much brighter place with Chris in it is such an understatement. He was always so vibrant and full of life and positivity, that without his light this place really did become a little darker. Rest in peace my friend.
from: Renee Royalon: 10-22-2026

Just shared some stories and laughs with him last week in the grocery store. Always smiling and laughing. Had him for homeroom and science class all four years of high school. Stunned to hear of his passing but know he will be at peace with his beautiful wife. My deepest sympathies to his family. Cherish those wonderful stories he was always great at sharing with others.

To Chris's family. My heartfelt condolences. I have known Chris and his family for 60 years at least. Whether it was playing wiffle ball at "Fenway Park" in Stamford or mini basketball at Stan's garage we had more fun with Chris and made growing up at "The Five Roads" an experience anyone who played there will never forget. I will forever remember Chris's enthusiasm, intelligence and good heart. He will be sorely missed.

Great guy, North Adams got smaller today, cannot remember a time that Mr. Wondolowski didn't smile and ask about how I was doing. Great teacher at Drury when I was there in the 70's and was exactly the same then , so sorry to the family, RIP Mr. Wondolowski. W.Tatro
from: W. Tatro on: 10-22-2026

A great family. His brother Jim and I were best friends. His father Stan used to "let" me work in his filling station and tire shop as a youngster--I got to service customers for gas cars back in the day when that meant something.

Chris and family, Curt and I are so sorry to hear about your Dad (or Wondo to us). We have great memories of him (including helping me dissect a frog) and we kept in touch in last few years. He was a great teacher, coach and an all around caring person who this world needs a whole lot more of. We are thinking of you all during this very sad time.
from: Becky and Curt Cellanaon: 10-22-2026

I am so sorry for the Wondoloski family. I had Mr. Wondoloski as a teacher back in Middle school. He would entertain with stories of his time with the fire department, and in particular, a story about rescuing some women off a stuck elevator. It was a fun story.
