Imperia Michaels

Imperia A. Michaels, 92, of 140 Melbourne Road died Monday at Melbourne Place. Born in New York City on Oct. 11, 1908, daughter of Domenico and Annunziata Rotunno Briganti, she graduated from high school in New York City and received her bachelor's degree from the University of California at Berkeley. Mrs. Michaels was a social worker for Westchester County (N.Y.) for 20 years. She worked at Planned Parenthood in New York City and for the United Nations Refugee Relief Services nearing the end of World War II. Her husband, Stevan Michaels, whom she married Nov. 16, 1946, died in January 1991. She leaves a daughter, Julie Michaels Spence of Housatonic; a son, Nicholas Michaels of Charlottesville, Va., and two brothers, Ben Briganti of Indiana and Robert Briganti of New Jersey. The funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. Memorial donations may be made in her memory to Hospice Care of the Berkshires in care of DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, which is handling arrangements.
