Mary R. Allessio

Mary R. Allessio, 96, formerly of 20 E. Housatonic St., died Saturday at Springside of Pittsfield Health Care Facility, where she resided for three years. Born in Pittsfield on March 31, 1904, daughter of John B. and Josephine Bossone Allessio, she was a 1922 graduate of Pittsfield High School and took many courses in Italian at the University of Massachusetts. Miss Allessio was employed by the former W.H. Shandoff store for 30 years, retiring in 1969. For the last 13 years of her career, she was office manager and buyer for W.H. Shandoff. Upon her retirement, she moved to Bala Cynwyd, Pa., returning to Pittsfield in 1981. She was a member of the Extension Board at the Pittsfield Women's Club, a member of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, and did volunteer work at the American Red Cross, the Berkshire Museum and for Pittsfield City Hall. She was a communicant of Mount Carmel Church. Her closest survivors are several nephews and nieces. Funeral services will be Friday, Feb. 2, at 10:15 a.m. from DWYER FUNERAL HOME with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in Mount Carmel Church celebrated by the Rev. Geoffrey Deeker, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. There are no calling hours at DWYER FUNERAL HOME. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
