Frank Monterosso

Frank Monterosso, 77, of 34 Easton Ave. died Monday at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. Born on March 3, 1923, in Polia, Italy, son of Antonio and Flavia Gaccetta Monterosso, he graduated from St. Joseph's High School in New Rochelle, N.Y., and attended Pittsfield High School to get his citizenship. Mr. Monterosso was a self-employed mason and had also worked for several area contractors and the city of Pittsfield Department of Public Works. He retired in 1989. He was a member of South Congregational Church and its Men's Forum. He was also a member of the Lions Club. He was a folk artist and had taught arts and crafts to local schools and nursing homes. He leaves his wife, the former Janet E. Lewis, whom he married Sept. 17, 1994; three sons, Anthony Monterosso and Joseph Monterosso, both of Pittsfield, and William Monterosso of Parkersburg, W.Va.; two daughters, Florence Keefner and Theresa Hatch, both of Pittsfield; two stepdaughters, Nancy Tierney of Pittsfield and Sally LeBarron of Crystal, Mich.; a brother, Dominic Monterosso of Lebanon, N.Y.; a sister, Mary M. Huska of Pittsfield; seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services for will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at South Congregational Church on South Street in Pittsfield, conducted by the Rev. Joel Huntington, pastor. Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery in Pittsfield. Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at DERY FUNERAL HOME. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association or to Lions Club International, both in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
