Frank Joseph Messina

Mr. Frank Joseph Messina 80 of 19 Pine Street, Adams, MA died Saturday, December 2, 2000 in the Emergency Room of North Adams Regional Hospital after being stricken earlier at his home. He was born in North Adams, MA on August 28, 1920. A son of the late Gregorio Messina and Maria (Spagnolo) Messina. He attended schools in North Adams, MA. He was a veteran of WW II entering the United States Army on September 21, 1942 and served in the European Theater of operations including the battle of the Rhineland and Central Europe. He was decorated with the European, African, Middle Eastern Theater Medal, The Good Conduct Medal, the Victory Medal and the American Theater Medal for his loyal service. Following his honorable discharge on March 23, 1946 he returned to North Adams, and was employed for 20 years at the Sprague Electric Company in North Adams, MA. He then moved to the state of Florida for a short time and then he returned to Adams, MA. He was employed with more than 20 years of service at the former Brightwater Paper Company which is now Crown Vantage Paper Company in Adams, MA, until his retirement in 1982. He was a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Church in North Adams while a resident of North Adams, and was a communicant of the parish of Notre Dame & St. Thomas in Adams, while a resident of Adams, MA. His wife the former Mary Veronica MacTavish whom he married July 31,1948 in St. Anthony of Padua Church, North Adams, MA, died February 1, 1995. Survivors include (3) daughters: Mrs. Mary L. Bisson of Prescott, Arizona, Mrs. Christine D. Holland of Adams, MA, and Elizabeth A. McCallister of McKinleyville, California, (1) son: Francis Messina of Adams, MA with whom he made his home, (8) grandchildren, (1) greatgrandchild. (2) brothers: Albert Messina of North Adams, and George Messina of Clearwater, FL, sever nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. He was predeceased by (3) sisters: Carmela Battista, Rose Andrews, and Marion Marchio, and (4) brothers: Dominick Messina, John Messina, Fiorino Messina, and Joseph Messina. Funeral services of Frank Joseph Messina will take place Tuesday at 10:45AM at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, WEST CHAPELS, 521 West Main St., North Adams, MA, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:30AM at St. Thomas of Aquinas Church in Adams, MA with the Rev. Daniel J. Boyle, Pastor of the Parish of Notre Dame and St. Thomas in Adams, MA as the celebrant. Burial will follow in the family plot in Southview Cemetary, North Adams, MA. Calling hours at the Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, WEST CHAPELS, 521 West Main St., North Adams, MA, are Monday from 4-7 PM. Flowers may be sent or memorial donations are suggested for the charity of the donor’s choice through the Funeral Home.
