Robert N. Carlotto

Robert N. Carlotto, 62, of 8 Grant Lane, Housatonic, died Saturday at home after a long illness. Born in Great Barrington on Sept. 10, 1938, son of Albina Storti Carlotto Opperman and the late Natale Carlotto, he was a 1956 graduate of the former Searles High School, where he was team manager of several varsity sports teams. In 1956, he played first base for Searles' varsity baseball team and led the league with a .389 batting average. Mr. Carlotto was employed by Wyantenuck Country Club and, since 1959, by the former Rising Paper Mill, now Fox River Paper Co. He was a finishing supervisor and a purchasing agent for more than 17 years, retiring in October 2000. He also maintained the railroad tracks for the receiving department dock on weekends for more than six years in the early 1980s. He was a coach for the Housatonic Youth Basketball League, and the former Adams Super Market and the former Pieropan Oilers teams at the Community Center. He enjoyed playing golf and was a member of the Egremont Country Club. He won many golf tournaments, including the Hole in One contest, acing the 145-yard 8th hole at Holyoke Country Club using a 9-iron. He also enjoyed gardening. He and his wife, the former Judith A. Joyce, were married Oct. 7, 1961, in St. Peter's Church. Besides his wife and mother, of Housatonic, he leaves a son, Andrew P. Carlotto of Housatonic; two daughters, Theresa R. Dimmock of Lexington and Julie M. Carlotto of North Adams; a sister, JoAnn Harris of Latham, N.Y., a half-sister, Penny Jobin of Fairfax, Va., and a granddaughter. The funeral for Robert N. "Bob" Carlotto,will be Tuesday, Feb. 27, at 10 at HICKEY-ROY FUNERAL HOME, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230, with the Rev. Anthony Jutt officiating. Family will receive family and friends Tuesday from 9 until the time of the service. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Expressions of sympathy in Bob's memory may be made to the Dialysis Unit at Berkshire Medical Center or to the Berkshire chapter of the Red Cross, both in care of the funeral home.
