Raymond A. Nichols Sr., 72

Raymond A. Nichols Sr.. 72, of 36 Pontoosuc Ave. died yesterday afternoon at Berkshire Medical Center. Mr. Nichols was founder and Owner, along with his brothers, the late Robert Nichols and Harry F. Nichols Jr., of Harry’s Supermarket on Wahconah Street. He, worked at the family store for 45 years. retiring in 1992. Born in Pittsfield on July 29, 1928, son of Harry F. Nichols Sr. and Alice Pharmer Nichols, he, was a 1946 graduate of Pittsfield High School. He was a communicant of St. Charles’ Church and a member of American Legion Post 68 and a 4th-degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Bishop Conaty. He was a former member of Berk~ shire Hills Country Club. He and his wife. the former Phyllis E. O’Donnell, celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary Aug. 22. They were married in St. Charles’ Church. Besides his wife. he leaves three sons, Thomas H. Nichols, Raymond A. Nichols Jr., and Scott M. Nichols, all of Pittsfield; two daughters, Susan M. Clark and Diane M. Simonelli, both of Pittsfield; two brothers, Charles L. Nichols and Arthur J. Nichols. both of Pittsfield; a sister, Dorothy Demick of Pittsfield. and 13 grandchildren. The funeral is Wednesday, November 29, at 9AM from Dwyer Funeral Home, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 AM in St. Charles Church celebrated by the Rev. Peter A. Gregory, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetary. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Tuesday, November 28, from 4 to 7 PM. If friends desire, donations may be made to St. Charles Church or to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation in care of Dwyer Funeral Home in his memory.
