Dorothy LaMudge

Dorothy I. LaMudge, 81, of Homestead, Fla., formerly of Sheffield, died Monday at Homestead Hospital. Born in Sheffield on May 12, 1919, daughter of Arthur G. and Nancy Leach Rote, she graduated from the former Sheffield High School. She also attended secretarial school in Worcester. She was employed by the former High Fidelity Magazine and the former Mahaiwe National Bank, both in Great Barrington, and for Home Gas Corp. before moving to Homestead 28 years ago. Mrs. LaMudge was a member of United Church of Christ in Monterey and the former Cincinnatus chapter of the Order of Eastern Star in Great Barrington. She was also a former tax collector for the town of Monterey. Her first husband, Howard R. Wells, whom she married July 2, 1941, in Sheffield, died in 1970. She leaves her husband, Donald H. LaMudge Sr., whom she married Aug. 3, 1972, in Housatonic; two daughters, Judith Phillips of Sheffield and Karen Rohrer of Homestead; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Francis Arnold of Sandisfield; a stepson, Donald H. LaMudge Jr.; a sister, Marion Malnati of Ashley Falls; 10 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Sandra M. Wells. She was predeceased by a brother, Louis Rote Sr. A memorial service will be held at a later date at Corashire Cemetery, Monterey.
