Mary R. Best

Mary R. Best, 88, formerly of 600 Main St. died yesterday morning at Springside of Pittsfield, where she had resided for 3 1/2 years. Born in Berkshire on March 3, 1913, daughter of Frank H. and Mary Connelly Best, she attended school there and graduated from Pittsfield High School and the former Berkshire Business College. Miss Best was employed by the former Robbins-Gamwell Wholesale Plumbing Corp. on West Street for 26 years. After that, she worked at Sears & Roebuck for 16 years, retiring in 1975. She was a communicant of North American Martyrs' Church in Berkshire and a member of its Rosary Sodality, and a longtime member of Court Bishop of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas and the Senior Center in Pittsfield. She leaves several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three sisters, the Misses Margaret M. and Helena F. Best, and Mrs. Kathleen B. Frank, and four brothers, Richard T. Best, who died in September, and Carlton F., Raymond L. and James C. Best. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 at North American Martyrs' Church by the Rev. John Smegal, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 9 a.m. on Wednesday. Memorial donations may be made to North American Martyrs' Church in care of DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME.
