Mabel L. Bennett

Mabel L. Bennett, 96, formerly of Cove Meadow Road, Northampton, died Thursday at Hillcrest Commons, where she had been a patient since September 1996. Born in Peru on Aug. 25, 1904, daughter of Franklin and Charlotte Wurglor Ford, she moved to Pittsfield as a young woman and was a graduate of Pittsfield High School and the former Berkshire Business College. Mrs. Bennett was employed by GE as a secretary and then worked for the U.S. Postal Inspection Service in Pittsfield, retiring in 1962. She and her husband, Ralph S. Bennett, also lived in Naples, Fla., before moving to Northampton. Mrs. Bennett was a member of First United Methodist Church and Chapter L of the PEO Sisterhood, both in Pittsfield. Her husband, whom she married in 1936, died Dec. 6, 1981. She leaves a brother, Franklin E. Ford of Midland, Mich. The funeral will be May 5 at Main Street Cemetery in Dalton at a time to be announced. There will be no calling hours. Among survivors are several nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews. Memorial donations are suggested to United Methodist Church of Pittsfield. WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield is in charge of arrangements.
