Helen (Davis) Garner

Helen (Davis) Garner, 84 of 136 North St. North Adams,Mass died Friday evening March 16, 2001 at the Willowood Health Care Center in Williamstown. She was born in North Adams, MA on October 12, 1916 a daughter of the late John D. Davis and Rhoda (Rizk) Davis. She attended schools in North Adams including the former St. Joseph’s Parochial School and graduated from the St. Joseph’s High School with the class of 1935. Mrs. Gamer was first employed by the former Gale Shoe Co. in North Adams. From 1949 to 1953 she was the co-owner with her brother Louis J. Davis of the Helen’s Diner on Marshall St. in North Adams. She later worked as a bookkeeper and seamstress with the former Boston Store until it closed. She was last employed for 16 years as a matron with the North Adams Police Dept. until her retirement. She was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church in North Adams. She was a member of its Rosary Society. She was also a member of the Lebanese Social Club. She and her husband operated the former Pine Cobble Kennels on Notch Rd. in North Adams for many years. Her husband was William Henry Garner, retired Police Captain of the North Adams Police Dept. whom she married on June 27, 1953. He died on July 2, 1996. Survivors include one daughter, Donna Marie Garner of North Adams, two stepchildren, Ret. North Adams Fire Director William H. Garner of North Adams, Linda A. Lloyd of North Adams. 6 stepgrandchildren, Scott Garner of Indiana; Russell Garner of Washington; Gerald Garner; Eric Garner, Michele Lloyd and Christopher Lloyd of North Adams. 6 step greatgrandchildren. 2 brothers, Louis J. Davis of North Adams and George Davis of Bethel,CT, 1 sister, Krimi Kahwajy of Bennington, VT, nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Helen (Davis) Garner will take place Wednesday morning at 10:15 AM at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals WEST CHAPELS 521 West Main St., North Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at St. Francis of Assisi Church. Burial will follow in the family plot in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals WEST CHAPELS are Tuesday evening from 6-9 PM. Flowers may be sent or donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to the charity of the donors choice in care of the funeral home.
