Alfred Gluckin

Alfred Gluckin, 96, of Five Strawberry Landing, Mill Valley, Calif., formerly of Pittsfield, died Feb. 17 at home. Born in Leipzig, Germany, on Oct. 5, 1904, son of Abraham and Mania Gluckin, he was educated in Germany and learned to speak five languages fluently. He worked for the Gluckin family import-export business in Milan, Italy, for 15 years before World War II. He was a survivor of the Holocaust. After the war, he emigrated to the United States and moved to New York City, where he met Martha Plotzky of Pittsfield. After their marriage in 1946, they moved to Pittsfield in 1953 and he became employed at Plotzky's Department Store. In 1986, he retired to Florida and then moved to California in 1988. Mrs. Gluckin died in 1992. He leaves a daughter, Dr. Doreen Gluckin Kanter of California, and a grandchild
