CARL I. CARLSON

CARL I. CARLSON, 98, a resident for the past year of Monarch Special Care at Laurel Lake Assisted Living Center in Lee, died Wednesday, December 6, 2000. Born on July 20, 1902, in Pittsburgh, PA, the son of Charles and Emelia Johnson Carlson. He was educated in local Pittsburgh schools and graduated from Peabody High School, Class of 1921. Mr. Carlson was employed by Republic Steel Corp., in the Bar Sales Division for forty five years, 6 in the Pittsburgh and Cleveland offices. Mr. Carlson retired in 1968. For the past fifteen years, Mr. Carlson, has been living with his daughter in Great Barrington. Carl married the former Jean Newell on May 19, 1927 in Pittsburgh. Mrs. Jean Carlson died in 1973. He then married the former Rachel Kid in November 1975, in Pittsburgh. Mrs. Rachel Carlson died in 1984. A seventy five year member of the Masons, Mr. Carlson was Past Master of East Liberty Lodge # 725 AF & AM in Pittsburgh, PA. He also enjoyed carpentry, cabinet making, and remodeling his home. Mr. Carlson is remembered for his dry sense of humor and independent spirit. Carl I. Carlson is survived by his daughter, Jean Leuchtenberger, of Great Barrington; Four grandchildren; Mark, Mary, Carol, and Jan; and five great grand children; Anna, Will, Greg, Eric. And Grace. A Service of Remembrance is planned for early January at the West Stockbridge Congregational Church. The time and date to be announced. Those who desire may make memorial donations in Carl I. Carlson’s memory to the West Stockbridge Congregational Church or to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the Finnerty & Stevens Funeral Home, 426 Main Street, Great Barrington, MA 01230.
