Lois S. Exford

Lois S. Exford, 91, of 120 New Lenox Road died yesterday at Berkshire Medical Center. Born in Cummington on May 7, 1909, daughter of Robert and Anna Sears Streeter, she graduated from the former Dalton High School and, in 1930, from the University of Syracuse. She was a member of Alpha Delta Pi. She moved to Lenox in 1996. After graduation, she moved to Adams and was employed as a librarian at the Adams Library. In 1933, she moved to Pittsfield, where she lived until 1971. She had resided in Naples, Fla., from 1971 until 1996, and had summered in Becket from 1933 until 1996. Mrs. Exford was an active volunteer and member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Pittsfield, serving as president of the Women of St. Stephen's for many years. In October 1967, she completed a workshop in literacy teaching and headed a group of volunteers to teach reading and writing to adults in Pittsfield on a person-to-person basis. Her husband, Robert P. Exford, whom she married April 12, 1930, died Sept. 30, 1996. She leaves two daughters, Jane E. Archibald of Lenox, with whom she resided, and Judith A. Juhring of Sparr, Fla., and a granddaughter. The funeral will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery in North Adams. There will be no calling hours. Among survivors is her granddaughter, Heather L. Archibald of Pittsfield. If friends desire, donations are suggested to either the Lenox Ambulance Fund or to St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 220 East St., Pittsfield, is in charge of arrangements.
