Bernard Thomas Horrigan

Bernard Thomas Horrigan, 85, of 7111 142nd Ave., North 66 Paradise Park, Largo, Fla., a former resident of 48 Beech St., died Sept. 15 at Suncoast Hospital in Largo. Born in North Adams on April 23, 1918, son of James and Hattie Fountain Horrigan, he attended the former St. Joseph's High School. He moved to Largo in 1983. A World War II veteran of the Marine Corps, he served as a corporal in the Pacific theater and was a member of the occupation forces in Japan. He was honorably discharged on May 21, 1946. Mr. Horrigan was employed by the former Mohawk Beverage Co. in Pittsfield for 35 years, retiring as sales manager in 1978. After that, he worked for Liberty Liquors Co. in Holyoke as a salesman for five years, retiring in 1983. While in North Adams, Mr. Horrigan was a communicant of St. Francis' Church. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 310, the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks, Lodge 487, and the former Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge, Chapter 240. He was also a member of the North Adams Rotary Club, the Frank R. Stiles Post 125 American Legion and the Dr. George L. Curran Post 996 VFW. He and his wife, the former Elizabeth Desnoyers, celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary Sept. 2. They were married in St. Francis' Church. Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Bernard Thomas Horrigan II of Burnt Hills, N.Y.; a sister, Madeline Bennett of Williamstown, and two grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Bernard Thomas Horrigan will be celebrated Monday, Sept. 29, 2003, at 11 at St. Francis' Church. Burial with military honors will follow in the family plot in Southview Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested for the charity of the donor's choice through FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, 521 Main St., North Adams, which is in charge of arrangements. Survivors include two grandchildren, Shannon and Keith Horrigan, and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Frank Horrigan.
